What's Sex Got To Do With It.?

Whats Sex Got To Do With It is the title of an article in the Sunday Times Magazine which ended up in my house today.. The cover holds the headline "Gaga and the Death of Sex- Camille Paglia demolishes an icon" with a photograph of Lady Gaga's face in a mirror..
Her fans see Lady Gaga as on erotic icon and a breaker of taboos, but Camilla Paglia, Americas foremost cultural critic argues that she is an asexual, confected copycat who has seduced the internet generation... Basically this woman criticises Lady Gaga, in idol to millions, claiming she copies everyone from David Bowie to Marlene Dietrich, has no originality and is simply a cardboard cutout, a music industry sham.. She says that when Gaga tells her little monsters that "Your a superstar, no matter who you are" and "love yourself" as if we are 'damaged goods beyond repair', while our cash ends up in Gaga's pockets. Is she serious.? Gaga cares about her fans because she understands what it feels like to be an outsider.. "

"I just felt like a freak, I guess what I'm trying to say is
I want to liberate them, I want to free them of their fears and make them feel that they can create their own space in the world"- Lady Gaga (about her fans)

" Some artists want your money so they can buy Range Rovers and diamond bracelets, but I don`t care about that kind of stuff. I want your soul"

She wants each person to know that they can be whatever they want to be, they can be themselves without being afraid! She supports people from all walks of life, teenagers, men, women, crossdressers, homosexuals, bisexuals, asexuals... In her Shows she says

"I want you to walk out of her tonight not loving me more, but loving yourselves more."

Yeah, shes totally only in it for the money...(heavy sarcasm)
Camille Paglia argues that how can Lady Gaga have been an outsider or freak, when she had a comfortable upbringing, and she attended the same upscale private manhattan
private school as Paris and Nicky Hilton... Ok, has she ever been a teenage girl? There are points in everyones life when they feel insicure or freakish! And how can she possibly describe Gaga's unbringing as comfortable, was she sitting in the Germanotta living room every everning surveying Gaga's family life? Hell no! So where is her proof? Every family and situation is different, you cant make presumptions. Presumptions are the mother of all fuck ups.
She then goes on to slate Lady Gagas music, saying that banal voice- alternating between bland bubblegum soprano and pushy faux manly alto. Yes because the 15million people who have bought her album and 40million who have purchased her singles really love her "bland, bubblegum" pop.

The author claims Lady Gaga is a manufactured personality.
She exhausts her opinion that Gaga is un-sexy. Un-Sexy? She's the sexiest thing around right now! Shes an artist, she does what she wants, she wears what she wants, she says what she wants. She's insane but she relates to everyone, shes vain and shes proud of it. She can be insicure and yet she still puts her individuality out there in every way.

She goes on to say Lady Gaga is the tired end to the Sexual revolution bla bla bla..
Gagas not the end shes the beginning! Gaga campaigns for Gay Rights and celebrates all sexualities! She's open minded and see's that homophobia and predjudice is wrong.
She doesnt care about walking around in bondage gear or posing nude for a magazine, because she's an example, telling everyone to be who they want to be!

"A girl’s got to use what she’s given and I’m not going to make a guy drool the way a Britney video does. So I take it to extremes. I don’t say I dress sexily on stage - what I do is so extreme. It’s meant to make guys think: ‘I don’t know if this is sexy or just weird."

The article in the Sunday Times Magazine really made me think. If Gaga was an ordinary carbon copy pop star, there wouldnt be 6 pages dedicated to slating her in a magazine,
she is brave enought to be herself and is discrimanated against for it.
I say fuck you to those who judge and label others for being themselves.
Why be boring? Be yourself!!

"To everyone who says this is wrong to feel like this say, 'I was born this way baby."

"‎"Do not allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded. Tell them to put on some sunglasses, cuz we were born this way bitch!"

  1. Nice defense.
You should change your font colour though, I had to highlight everything to be able to read it - light pink on white is not very readable (at least it isn't on LCD screens).
