Meadham Kirchhoff A/W 2012

Another fantastic show from Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff, an absolute circ de soleil of fashion. Featuring multi colored knits, harlequin sequined suits and applique strewn denim.
The Rocky Horror Show theme song played as the models stomped up the catwalk, some of them throwing glitter as they went.

The harlequin theme was evident in the plaid and diamond pattern suits and trousers. Mismatched tights and pom pom festooned up do's added a special touch, bouncing off the sequin drop earrings and 70's Disco vibe.

The intricate embroideried nighties and flouncy skirts seem to carry on from MK 's Spring/Summer show.

Marie Antoinette style wigs and applique and pinned denim clashed beautifully under the disco lights, and yet more statement collars and blazers were seen for the future season.

Tasseled skirts and Eye-Print Fur coats were the highlight of the show for me, while the pom pom adorned head pieces were barely seen due to the walking pace the models flung them selves onto the catwalk with, there was barely time to catch all the intimate details.

The last looks took a dark turn as the models faces were plastered with garish goulish face paint and dancing feverishly down the catwalk.

More Nail wraps for me to obsess over! Love the unicorn, shroom's and fried egg wraps. Cannot wait to get my hands on these bad boys.

Once again, Meadham Kirchhoff ticked all the right boxes for me, though I don't think it was as ground breaking as their last season show. It seems this duo do nothing if not give the audience a visual feast of ideas, patterns and forward thinking.

Meadham Kirchhoff S/S 2O12

One f my favourite shows at London Fashion Week this season was the collection by Ed Meadham and Ben Kirchhoff, a vertible feast of vintage cartoon appliques, pastel marabou coats and glittery rubber layered, pom pom festooned stomp shoes.
The show opened with a troop of ditzy but eerie Courtney Love esque dancers, patting themselves with powder pouffes and applying lipstick in sync. The group wore silk slips in dreamy pastel colors with contrasting tights and yellow blonde wigs powdered purple and pink in places. Ed Meadham described the collection as
“something that’s lovely and sweet and antifeminist—
about taking all the things that little girls are taught are beautiful and pretty from an early age—and destroying and celebrating them at the same time.”

The models were bedecked in an array of cartoon print cardigans, colored over the knee socks and loud colors muted with girly pastels, each outfit remindative of a ten year olds tea party.
The vibe was one of frivality with the runway surrounded with pink and purple balloon arches.
The mood changed slightly as the show progressed, with exquisit laser cut and embroideried jackets, sequined knickers and frilly collars contributing a more grown up vibe, but not too grown up! An elementary school thought was presented with bright pinafores, kilt piping and striped ties jazzing up the muted pastel tones.

The laser cut hems and collars of the frocks appliqued with ballerinas, teddy bears and love hearts were an exceptional feat, celebrating the childish theme of the show.

As the show continued the colors and prints became louder, with embroideried pockets and candyfloss hair stomping down the catwalk.
Dotted through the show were fantastical Isabella Blow like pastel marabou coats and shrugs, casually buttoned over embroideried dresses and teddy bear printed skirts.

After a short interval where a gaggle of little girls in red ballet slippers danced atop of an iced cake, the clothes became more muted.
A kind of Marie Antoinette theme emerged, with contrasting pastel lace peeking out from structured corsets and pearl tasseled shorts.
The closing look was a tiny swan princess dress with gold fillagree gloves on a model with a painted orange moustache.
A coveted item from the show would have to be the Meadham Kirchhoff printed nail wraps, in ice cream shades with adorable motifs.
The make up was dramatic, with colored eyebrows and sweeps of color dominating the models faces.
Of course the shoes, the magnificent shoes! Strips of glittered rubber layered with gold, pink and white foil frills, topped with a huge white pom pom. *sigh*

Hair was a messy affair, candyfloss curls mixed with neon and pastel paint and powder splattered wigs.
My favourite show of the season, Meadham Kirchhoff.

I do not own, nor am I claiming to own any of the featured photographs.
